Advancing Environmental Performance through Green HRM: The Mediating Mechanism of Green Organisational Citizenship Behaviour in Higher Education
With a focus on the mediating function of "Green Organisational Citizenship Behaviour" (GOCB) among academics, this study scans the influence of "Green Human Resource Management" (GHRM) on "Environmental performance" (EP) at "Higher Education Institutions" (HEIs). HEIs are under growing pressure to embrace green projects into their organisational frameworks in the modern era of sustainability and environmental concern. A structured survey instrument was used to gather data from academics utilising a quantitative research approach, and mediation analysis techniques were used for analysis. The results show a statistically significant positive correlation between GHRM practices and EP, indicating that environmentally conscious hiring, training, evaluation, and compensation policies significantly improve institutional sustainability outcomes. Furthermore, the findings show that GOCB partially mediates this association, suggesting that academicians' voluntary pro-environmental actions enhance the efficacy of GHRM activities. By providing actual data from the HEIs and highlighting the strategic significance of developing green behavioural competences among academicians to achieve long-term environmental sustainability, the study adds to the body of knowledge already available on sustainability and HRM.
