A Study of Effective Talent Management Strategies for Attracting and Retaining Right Talent in the Healthcare Sector
Healthcare organizations worldwide face a persistent and intensifying gap between the demand for skilled clinical and administrative personnel and the available supply, a gap that directly threatens patient safety, service quality, and institutional sustainability. This research paper examines the strategies healthcare organizations use to attract and retain the "right talent" individuals whose competencies, values, and career expectations align with the clinical and organizational demands of the sector. Drawing on a review of academic and industry literature together with a structured analysis of practice across public and private healthcare providers, the study identifies eight core talent management functions workforce planning, employer branding and recruitment, on boarding, learning and development, compensation and benefits, performance management, career pathing and succession, and employee well-being and evaluates their relative influence on attraction and retention outcomes. The findings indicate that retention in healthcare is driven less by compensation alone than by a combination of professional development opportunity, manager quality, scheduling flexibility, and protection against burnout, while attraction is increasingly shaped by employer brand and the perceived alignment between an organization's stated values and its day-to-day practice. The paper concludes with a set of practical recommendations for healthcare human resource leaders and proposes directions for future research, including longitudinal study of retention interventions and comparative analysis across healthcare systems of different sizes and ownership structures.
